The Trip: Chapter 4 - Fraser Island

After picking up Elz and spending another few days in Byron watching her get burnt it was time to get underway again.
After 90 minutes in the car we decided it was time to surf again - we were in Surfer's Paradise so naturally the waves were pretty bad.. I tired of this and was seeing odd shapes under the water so came in after an hour or so. Yeremy soon followed and he to seemed to have seen wierd shapes. We turned around to see Adam paddling rather rapidly in and then running up the beach... "Dude there was definitely a shark down there!" we decided to let the lifeguards know and walked over, as we rocked up the guy was giggling to himself: "They're only Manta Rays Guys" he said, without us saying a word. We looked back out to sea to see two rather large black shadows slowly cruising along the shore. Bastard Fish.

Since we'd quickly made fools of ourselves we decided to leave, stopping overnight in Brisvegas then continuing North to Noosa via Australia Zoo again and getting up at 6am for Dawn Patrol - Noosa was our last surf, and my first ever cutback! Oh yes.

After passing a worrying amount of churches and evangelical retreats we rocked up into Hervey Bay - gateway to Fraser Island. After checking in and paying the exorbitant extra charges I was soon pleased to find out that the rather attractive girl in our room was also going to be in our car on the island...

...later in the bar we had a briefing about the island and met the rest of our group:

Tom and James - two Bristolian lads. Excellent drinkers and mayhem advocates.

Eric and Mo - German lads but legends all the same.

Vanessa and Laura - German girls, a little quiet except when there is an open bottle of Jim Beam nearby...

Emma - the aforementioned girl from our room, a marine biologist from Norfolk.
And then of course us gorgeous lot...

It was shaping up to be quite a good car... after a few beers and ordering our meat and alcohol supplies we purchased food and returned to the pub.
Waking at a cruel 6am we went to load up the cars... ours was identified by the joyously large pillar of beer in front of it.Car loaded and another annoying briefing later we were underway - go go signs that give me ideas...On the ferry we discovered that Tom had recently got a Tattoo in Byron Bay. A tattoo of James' lips. On his ass.
First thing on the island we headed to Lake McKenzie via a brief traffic jam

McKenzie's a beautiful, if a little overcrowded place - the water's so clean you can just swim and drink... we did both lots. Go Go group photo.

Then on to Lake Wabby, which is slowly disappearing thanks to that giant sand dune...we were really getting into our group photos....Then on to the Maheno - a random shipwreck on the beach halfway up the island

Then it was time to make camp... we ended up on the same part of the beach as everyone else - this meant party time. But we had to put on our makeup first...

We also came up with the brilliant game of "Wanker" - basically everyone sticks their hand through a hole on the plastic beer ring thingy and pulls. The one with it left on their arm is the wanker and has to keep it on for the rest of the trip. Soon we were all covered in them.
Partying on the beach, me and the girls needed a quick nap before sunrise...

We then spent a while wandering around looking at each other wandering what to do. (Turns out we excelled at this). We eventually got underway long after everyone else, just in time to be trapped by the tide as it covered the very driveable wet sand, forcing us on to the soft, dry sand. Curses. Ely Creek was the only option - an nice little river you can wade up and then just float your way down to the sea...
We soon tired of this so decided to bury then run over Yeremy...
With the tide finally out enough we could move on, not long before we saw a dead dolphin washed up... not nice...
We headed to a campsite for lunch, I kept finding interesting creatures to poke
The site was run by some resident aboriginies and they had removed the dolphin from the beach and buried it nearby. We were lucky enough to see part of the farewell ceremony for the dolphin spirit until we were asked to move on. Turns out it was more of a private thing.
Later on we made camp on the beach again, soon everyone else turned up. It was the girl's turn to cook. The guys just drank. Professionally. This culminated in an epic game of "Asses of Fire"...

.. and also the impossible situp game...
Germans can be so gullible...

Much drinking and shenanigans later it was daylight again and time to move on... there were more lakes to see!

...after the lads visited the salon we covered most of the south of the island before reconvening at the ferry port to head home, there was just enough time for one more group photo...
Back at the hostel we cooked the rest of our meat and had a good few beers while sifting though the 800 or so photos we took between us. (Hence the epic length of this entry). Most of us were to meet up again further up the coast, Emma and I had a bit of a thing going by the end of the trip which continued to Cairns and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing her when I'm home.

Some groups on Fraser Island just party. Some just want to see everything. We did both. To excess. This has been the best thing I've done out here so far and I think I mostly have to thank the group I was with for that. You're all legends and I hope to see you all again soon. I'll bring the toilet roll.

ARGH!!! NO to giant spider photos without warning! *fear*

I'm never reading this blog again before bed, even with 8 hrs sleep* since weds, I don't think I'm gonna be able to sleep now haha.

*Lack of sleep may be blamed largely on trying to lead Team Cooper, running looking after silly annoying girls, 3 silly gigs in various parts of town, and copious amounts of alcohol. Joy. ;)

Happy Easter xx

Happy Easter Mummy Hall!
Sorry for the super-late reply, I have been attempting to revise (and not doing very well - I keep getting distracted by shiny things).
Glad to hear that you had a brilliant time, I am so jealous! I could do with a nice holiday sometime soon, hopefully when exams are over, although maybe after I have my dissertation in, so that I can get away from everything and relax.
didnt register for Glastonbury, thought that it would be too stressful to try and get tickets, especially after the year off, lots of people will want to go! Also have vague plans on seeing Muse in Paris that weekend, but depends on whether I can get a job before then, as I have come to the end of my budget for the year, which is not ideal.
Did you all get tickets for Glastonbury? I know the boys did, hope you did too! Im sure I will see you soon anyway, Ella and I will be meeting up at some point soon, either here or there, so if Im around I'll let you know.
Hope you are all well and happy, and that your Easter holidays were sparkly. Speak to you soon!
Love and hugs

Happy Easter Flapjack!
Went to First Friday dressed as the Easter Bunny :) was really good fun, although Boyfluff was there with girlfriend, who proceeded to barge into me repeatedly all evening... Im no walk over, so eventually had to chuck a bit of drink after her. She stopped then, but prob told tales about me to him - hey ho.
Got very drunk, have giant step-shaped bruise on left hip from where I decided that it would be a good idea to test the bouncability of the Islington Academy stairs coming back down from the upstairs bar... ouch :( Will send photos :)
Hope you are well and happy, speak to you soon.
Love and hugs

Aw pants, my last comment to Mummy Hall wasnt on there last night when I spoke to her, now she'll think Im a repetitive nutter! Im not, Im simple a nutter :)

Hope you're well and sparkly Flapjack, just beaten PSV to make it to the Semi's of the Champions League, against Chelski again, would you believe. The other semi is United vs AC Milan. If we beat Chelski again, like we did two years ago, and Milan win their Semi (beating your mean lot), it'll be a repeat of both the semifinal AND the final for us, how exciting is that?!
OK, probably not very, but to little Suze, a few Stellas into her evening, it so totally is!
Best get some sleep, lovely day in Brighton tomorrow, I hope to look at lots of shiny things in The Lanes and hopefully persuade nice people to give them to me, because I am small - works with you :P
Love and hugs and a soggy beermat that I brought home for you... :D

Where is everybody?

Havent posted for a bit, have been particularly rubbish over the last month or so, but I still love you - it's just a pain, having to see your bum everytime I want to say hello!

Got your e-mail, Sam's not sure whether he wants to go, but Mark's going, Im going, and if Sam doesnt want to go, then Boyfluff will probably have his ticket - unless he has been making me cry again, then maybe my gorgeous Ella, coz that would be fab!

Speaking of friends that were yours and are now mine and mine alone (your fault for going away!) I forgot to mention that I met up with Eva a couple of weeks ago, which was lovely. She came to my birthday drinks, we'd been meaning to meet up for ages, and finally managed it! She's in Egypt on holiday at the moment, but she said hello, and I'll see her when she gets back.

Right, back to revision - not so sunny today, so I might have to stay indoors. Probably best, Ive spent the last couple of weeks revising in the garden, and I keep getting distracted by pretty birdies and watching cars drive down the hilly roads on the other side of the valley - Im a simple girlie, easily pleased by pretty scenery. Must be the Valley Girl in me :)

Lots of love, cant wait until you are back, not long now, got a huge koala-baby-hug waiting for you!

Camden Crawl today and tomorrow! I should so be revising instead...

...if one would like to partake in a typically rambley drunk-Suze-drunk-Tom conversation over the next few days, give me a call :)

When Im back, I promise I really will reply to an e-mail, probably after Monday's exam though, sozzles. This is just easier to wave at you occasionally!

Totally cant wait to see you either - bring back some sand for me, and maybe a pretty Aussie indie rocker!

Love love love love love

Seriously, please post something new, I dread posting my little 'Hello!' messages for fear of seeing your bum again.

Hurting a lot after a very hectic, but totally wonderful Camden Crawl, all very messy, especially as I managed to get a whole pint of pintage over my head before Hadouken! came on on the Thursday - they being only the second band we saw that day, I was a very soggy flower! Friday was good, managed to see a few extra bands by being friendly with people (you know me). Made one particularly sparkly friendling who then nearly got arrested because he was showing off a little bit... oops :)

Got an exam tomorrow, Separation Science, double module, panic panic, then some assessed thing on Wednesday, followed by Chelski - Pool semi-final with Boyfluff in The Court, will be good to wind down a little. Two exams the week after, and one the week after that, then it's dissertation-tastic fun all the way through until September...

Anyways, as I always keep saying, I will reply to your e-mails soon! They just seem to take more time than the quick hellos that I maanage here, and I feel bad because I know I should be trying to remember things instead :)

BBQ later this evening, so best get some work done, back to the notes - Boyfluff was babysitting my notes during the Crawl, as he wasnt Crawling himself, and it meant that I could revise in the sunshine, then give him my notes and he'd take them home whiel i got covered in beer. Anyways, he's left these cute little comments and messages through my revision notes, it's all very cute, Ella and I have been gurgling over lovely things that pretty boys do :) So yes, back to Boyfluff enhanced revision in the garden! It's a hard life :)

Love and hugs and some marshmallow loving (that's for you Ella!). Be good!

Off to revise, with a warm toastie feeling that is only partially due to a bottle of Merlot :) Im so hopelessly romantic it's silly, but I just dont care!

Love and hugs and rose petals!

Re: TCTC, highly inconsiderate, Boyfluff's friend-band were playing that AKG thing at Koko last night with TCTC headlining, only now it's postponed - they have promised bigger and better headliners though :) Thank heavens, they used to be OK. Until they lost their rock. Now they just make me drowsy, so about time too!

Going to start my Getting-Flapjack-Back countdown soon, you'd best hunt out a koala baby for me in the next few weeks, I expect grey furry loving on your return :P

Love you lots, cookie-dough-loving and dancing around revision notes to new music :)
